I am not so interested in who is "closer to the original" as I am in divergence from the "most popular" or common AmE pronunciation. What do you mean by 'English' and 'vowel'? Do you mean the 'Roman alphabet' and 'letters'? That would make sense, given that the Roman letter 'o' can represent many different sounds English pronunciation.
