The 85mm f1. You might also look at the mm f2. This would give you more flexibility for a variety of photography. When the D came out, the reviews were something like, "the D is better than the D, but probably not worth upgrading. Suggest spending a little extra and get the D as I'll assume the D is out of reach.
You'll appreciate the better focus and low light performance. Easy Mark 5 years ago. While it has been a very good camera much more enjoyable to use than the D and D I previously owned , I would have to agree with I've had autofocus problems with my D I sent it in to Nikon under warranty and they said it was "up to spec", whatever that means. I still have AF problems with it. It's not ideal, but it has saved my bacon a few times. If you think you might want to do ANY video at all, you will be disappointed that the D only does 24fps at p resolution.
The D does p at 30 FPS as well as p at 60 fps On the other hand, if you are someone who likes to shoot using a lot of the Auto functions auto ISO, auto white balance, autofocs , then a used D would also suffice. I like that, but they again, I am neurotic. I am sure I have missed some great photos of my son because I was too busy dialing in the perfect white balance So if you are ok with using the very good Auto presets, then a D or or even a would be great I do love the fully articulating LCD screens - but if they had been touch screens they would have been amazing.
D might be a better bet, unless you need that buffer. Nikon increased the buffer size in the D All these incrementalist changes ultimately do add up to better cameras, The D does use the same body style as the D80, so it's plethora of controls is probably what you want.
If the OP would like to find some good and somewhat less expensive manual lenses, they would work well on the D7X00 series of cameras. Also, the AF fine tune of a D7X00 camera can be pretty helpful for problematic lenses. PhotoHobbyist 5 years ago.
It would beat buying used, since you will get Nikon's warranty and warranty service, if needed. I just sold my D to KEH and it was in great shape with many years left in it. In my opinion, the camera is selling far below it's real worth. I initially had some focus issues with the body that resolved through a combination of autofocus fine tuning and switching to back button focusing. Why did I sell?
As much as I loved my D, a Fuji XT has become my daily shooter and I've purchased a used D as I've been wanting to try out full frame and a bigger viewfinder. Storage closet is only so big. I think it is a dangerous camera to buy used. There were a lot of focus problems early in the production run, and those cameras are now circulating in the used marketplace.
Buy new or refurbished in case you need repairs or adjustment. Buy it from a reputable seller and enjoy it! I'm still shooting mine. As am I. It's still my main digital camera. Do it! My D is 4 years old now and is my everyday take out camera with the 17 - 80 lens. I don't use the video.
It makes outstanding images with a good lens and good technique. I've had no issues at all with it. Has internal focus motor. Dual SD card slots. D is a great camera and I own one Mark Scott Abeln.
